Exquisite Orchids ala Marjorie Merriweather Post

Recently, I twice-visited "the Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, the Washington home of 20th-century grande dame Marjorie Merriweather Post."  Post was the heiress of the Postum Cereal Company who later transformed her father's business into General Foods Corporation.

Above all else she was a collector and in 1955 bought a 25-acre crumbling estate in DC to house all her many collections.  I hope to share with you some of the extraordinary objects on view (furniture, Faberge eggs, icons, chalices, jewelry and wardrobe, figurines, light fixtures, but most of all — PORCELAIN dishes beyond comprehension!) but for now, here's a look at the beauties in her greenhouse...

So if there's any gloom in your day, take a look at these delicate blooms, and remember that despite all, there IS beauty in the world.

  1. Haha! Wonderful photos! For a few minutes, you were one of the "beauties in her greenhouse," too! It was so good to see you!
